The iconic image of Christ Pantocrator ("Almighty" or "All-powerful") was one of the first images of Christ developed in the Early Christian Church and remains a central icon of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Holy Trinity

Description:

Holy Trinity, inspired by Andrei Rublev's famous icon, which shows the Trinity in the form of three angels -- the three angels are depicted in equal dignity, symbolizing the triunity and equality of all three Persons.

The first angel is the first person of the Trinity - God the Father; the second, middle angel is God the Son; the third angel is God the Holy Spirit. All three angels are blessing the chalice, in which lies a sacrificed calf, prepared for eating. The sacrifice of the calf signifies the Saviours death on the cross, while its preparation as food symbolizes the sacrament of the Eucharist. All three angels have staffs in their hand as a symbol of their divine power.

The prototype for this icon was the mysterious appearance of the Holy Trinity in the form of three travelers to Abraham and Sarah under the oak of Mamre.

Virgin Of Pachev

Description:

This wooden icon of the Virgin of Pachaev (Pochev) and the Christ Child comes from the Ukraine. The history of this icon of Our Lady of Pochaev beings in 1198, only about two centuries after Christianity came to the Ukraine. In this year a monk ascended Mount Pochaev in order to pray and a pillar of fire appeared both to him and a group of shepherds. The flames retreated and there was the Virgin Mary. After the apparition disappeared, a footprint was left behind from which sprang a flow of water.

TECHNIQUE

The icon is handpainted on wood panel with tempera.

The wood panel has been prepared by gluing a piece of cloth to it, then several layers of gesso have been applied. When the gessoed panel has dried completely, the surface has been carefully sanded and polished to a marble-like smoothness. The board is now ready to paint on.

This icon is gilded with gold-like metal leaf, and then the paint layers have been applied, beginning with the darkest underlying colors and finishing with the lightest ones. NOTE: If you'd like gold leaf to be used for the gilding of the icon, please contact me to add a listing -- $25.00 for A4 formats.

To protect the image against dust and water it has been varnished with several layers.

NOTE: This order is for an icon made to order and will ship 2 weeks within payment. Please note that the icons are handpainted and every image is unique (there might be slight differences b/w the image you see here and the icon you'll receive).

About Janeta:

My art of choice is iconography.

I have been painting icons for 7 years now. I am self-taught.

Icon from Greek “eikon”, means “image”. In modern culture it is also used in the general sense of “symbol”. The art of making icons, iconography, follow certain symbolism that carries a message. An icon can be a meaningful gift to family or friends.

Every new icon I paint, I try to make it better – more spiritual, more refined, more powerful.
