Rabbi

This image is based on the Sinai Christ, but painted to emphasize Christ's human nature and Jewish heritage as a son of the tribe of David. He is lost in thought as he thinks of what he must accomplish in the short amount of time remaining to him before he sacrifices his life for mankind.

Knowing What We Must Do

The Holy Trinity is visiting Abraham in disguise as angels on their way to destroy the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham has asked them to spare any righteous people they may find, but they already know what they will find. God the father is seated on the left of the picture and he had known of this day since before the beginning of time. The Holy Spirit, God the Mother on the right hand of the picture with her head downcast has sorrow in her heart for human kind, while God the Son, Jesus is seated at the center. He is seated before a chalice of wine which symbolizes the blood he will come to sacrifice for mankind. Behind him, the darkness of the sky lightens because he will be man's salvation. A vine climbs through the tree foreshadowing His future words "I am the vine, you are the branches." The eyes of the father and the son gaze off into the distance already on their coming task.
